John Brown's "Chevybaker"

I am selling for his widow the collection of the late John Brown, long time member of the North Georgia Chapter of the SDC, who passed away last fall.

This is a 1953 Studebaker coupe 4H-C5 with a Chevrolet engine and transmission, a Hawk dash, and Brand X front seats. The engine has variously been reported as being a late 60s 300hp 327 CID, and a 1975 350 CID; I am not a Chevy expert, so I hope someone can clear this up. The trans is a TH350.

The engine starts and runs, and the transmission shifts 1st to 2nd- there was not enough driveway for more testing, and we didn't want to take it out on the road since the engine was running from a can of gasoline under the hood. (We are having the gas tank professionally cleaned and coated, and it will be installed in late August.) The car has new brake cylinders all around. The radiator leaks and will need to be repaired. Included is a large roll of the vinyl that was used to cover the door panels, probably enough to do the rear seats.

There is evidence of rust repair in the floor in the front seats, but the fenders and rocker panels appear to be sound; we have not checked to see if they've been repaired, but it is probably safe to assume so.

Asking $6900. Email Chuck Lampman at email address image.
