Doug Kay - Black Hawk SDC
Doug's 1953 Land Cruiser
Doug's 1953 4-door sedan was purchased new at Bright Motors Studebaker Dealership in Elmhurst, Illinois. It was passed down through the family to Les Fiene, a mechanic, who maintained the Studebaker from 1978 to 1991. It was then sold in 1991 to Carol Kay who bought her as a Christmas present for Doug. The car has 29,000 original miles on her.
The Land Cruiser is a stretch version of the Commander 4 door sedan. The engine is 232 c.i. V8, this car has a manual 3 speed transmission with overdrive plus the famous HILLHOLDER (clutch operated brake). The bars on the front are optional Van Auken bars to protect the front end
