Due to schedule conflicts with the date change of the Northwest Overdrive and with Mother’s Day, the May tour is canceled. The Meadows and Lake Kathleen Railroad is rescheduled for the June tour.
Sunday, June 22, the Willamette Chapter SDC will tour the Meadows and Lake Kathleen Railroad near Deadwood, Oregon.
We are meeting in Junction City at 9:45 A.M in the parking lot of the Dollar Tree Store near the Dutch Bros Coffee, on the east side of Hwy 99. We will depart for the tour at 10:00.
The drive to Deadwood is 39 miles from Junction City on Highway 36 and is quite a scenic drive through the Oregon countryside. We should arrive at the railroad a little before 11:00.
The tour starts with Ray, the owner, showing his extensive collection of automobile license plates. The tour then continues to the engine house and the trains. The Meadows and Lake Kathleen Railroad has a covered picnic area with tables and chairs where we will have lunch. Each family will need to bring its own picnic lunch, drinks and place settings. Grills are provided for guest to use, but you need to bring your own charcoal. Remember to bring back everything you take; the Meadows and Lake Kathleen Railroad is a long way from garbage pickup.
Round trip from Junction City to the Meadows and Lake Kathleen Railroad is approximately 90 miles, so be sure to have a full gas tank for the tour.
We have invited the Cascade Chapter to join us on this tour. It would be a shame to have the Cascade Chapter out-member us on this tour.
There is no admission charge for the Meadows and Lake Kathleen Railroad, but donations are accepted.This is an excellent tour for families with children or grandchildren.
